Beth and Jeff Blumenkrantz hit the studio late last year to record the brand-new concept album for Regretting Almost Everything, an intimate, two-person musical about a middle-aged woman couple who love each other and their kids, but can’t quite seem to find the passion in their marriage any longer.

With a book and lyrics by Lauren Taslitz and a score by Danny Ursetti, Regretting Almost Everything has been in the making for over five years. Following its world premiere at the Barrington Stage Company in 2017, the show was also staged in New York City in 2018. In the intervening years, Taslitz and Ursetti expanded the show into a full two-person musical.

No, I Don’t (Yes, I Do), the latest single from the concept album, is now available on all streaming platforms.

It features Beth as Anne, who, missing the passion in her marriage, agonizes over whether or not to have an affair.

“Every once in a while, a song comes into your life that takes your breath away,” says Beth. “This is one of those songs.”

“Lauren brought this lyric into Bill (William Finn’s) class. The emotions and story were so clear, the music came easily,” recalls composer Danny Ursetti. “Other than some minor adjustments we worked out together, this is one of the few songs we felt we got right the first time.”

The new concept album of Regretting Almost Everything, featuring 15 songs and one bonus track, will be released on 14 March 2023. Music director and pianist Paul Staroba conducts and performs with an eight-piece orchestra, including a string quartet and rhythm section. The album was recorded at Power Station at Berklee NYC, produced by Kathy Sommer and Matt Anthony (Alchemy Music), and mastered by Darcy Proper.
